Nomar Garciaparra Signs With The Sawx
March 10, 2010 3:35 PMIn an extremely classy move, the Boston Red Sox have signed Nomar Garciaparra to a one day contract so he can retire as a Red Sox player. The six time all-star, Sawx Nation fan favorite, and Mr. Mia Hamm will move to his next job as an analyst for the World
Wide Leader in Sports ESPN.
His career got off to a great start as he was named AL Rookie of the Year in 1997 after hitting .306 with 30 homers and 209 hits. He also led the AL in hitting twice – in 1999 and 2000. In those early days of his career, he looked like a shoo-in for baseball’s Hall of Fame and was compared favorably to Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter. Unfortunately, Nomah spent a lot of time on the disabled list with various injuries, especially in the latter years of his career when he played for the Cubs, Dodgers and A’s.
A two-time All-American at Georgia Tech and an Academic All-American, Garciaparra is an extremely engaging man who possesses a keen intellect. I am looking forward to his next role in life as baseball analyst.
Hats off to the Sawx and Garciaparra for this classy move.
