The Associated Press asks in a headline this week whether baseball can help restore relations between the United States and Cuba.

“‘Pingpong diplomacy’ thawed relations between the United States and China in 1971. Can “baseball diplomacy” help do the same for the U.S. and Cuba?” the story begins.

A group of slow-pitch players from Massachusetts are now touring Cuba. Red Sox great Luis Tiant spoke to them before they went on their way.

It is now ten years since the Orioles made their heralded trip eastwards. And now there is talk of another journey by the team to Cuba.
