    The World’s Longest Baseball Game

St. Louis, MO – Organizers today announced they will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the Longest Baseball Game ever played on Saturday, October 13th and Sunday, October 14th. Successfully breaking the record will bring another coveted baseball-related record home to Baseball City, USA.

The current record of 30 hours, 5 minutes and 27 seconds was set on September 6, 2006 in Alliance, Nebraska when the Alliance Times-Herald Dragons edged the WESTCO Knights 120-114 in 84 innings.

The ultra-marathon baseball game record attempt will be played at TR Hughes Field in O’Fallon, MO and the first pitch will be at 8:00 AM on October 13th. The record will be broken at 2:05:28 on Sunday afternoon but the St. Louis organizers are planning to play for, at least, 32 hours. The games’ final out is anticipated to occur around 4:30 PM on Sunday.

“We started planning to break the record ever since I saw that a new mark had been set last year,” stated event founder and co-chair Chuck Williams (Wildwood, MO). “While we certainly respect the effort by the players in Alliance (NB), baseball is part of the culture of St. Louis and the record belongs here.”

The event organizers plan to pay further tribute to St. Louis’ long and storied relationship with the sport of baseball by wearing authentic replica uniforms of two former St. Louis championship teams; the 1928 Negro National League Champion St. Louis Stars and the 1944 American League Champion St. Louis Browns.

“The St. Louis Stars remain one of baseball’s best kept secrets. They won 3 Negro National League championships in four years and featured some of baseball’s best players in the history of the game,” stated Williams. “For years, the Browns were loveable losers. But they caught lightning in a bottle in ‘44 and faced the Cardinals in St. Louis’ only “Streetcar Series’” at Sportsman’s Park. Both the Stars and the Browns helped to lay the cultural foundation of baseball in St. Louis for fans of all ages, races and religions. We’re honored to represent each of these clubs and help pass on their legacy to another generation of fans.”

The event organizers are playing the World Record Baseball Game to benefit Gene Slay’s Boys’ Club of St. Louis. Through corporate sponsorship, personal donations and player sponsorship pledges, the organizers are planning to raise over $100,000 to support the athletic and educational programs at the Boys’ Club.

“The Boys’ Club of St. Louis was the first Boys’ Club in Missouri and in our 80 years we’ve never been a part of such a unique and exciting fund raising event,” stated Executive Director of the Boys’ Club Tom Wild. “This game will be a terrific example to our members about the virtues of dedication and commitment to achieving your goals in life.”
